We have the web based messenger, document composition, web photo organizing, map tools, calendars, webmail apps, and even online photo editing software. There is just about something for every program in my dock. The only program that I have the skills to build and wasn’t already a completely saturated market is the web based browser.
The industry is quickly advancing and people are quickly setting up clones just about every popular and successful website like digg and YouTube. With a lack for ideas it is likely that many ridiculous ideas will begin to pop up. Useless Account, an example of the need for new ideas for web startups put together by the Brisbane Creative team got a ton of press as well as over 1200 diggs.
To support this cause I created the incredibly insignificant Web Based Browser. No matter how much you like it, this is an accurate portrayal of the decreasing quality of web startups. I pasted this project together in just a few hours today as my summer officially began. With some basic javascript, some PHP, and a little basic design this functions correctly as any startup would. Even with functionality I made it to contradict each of the keys to a successful startup. Well, I’d better get browsing!

That’s actually very interesting. I’ve noticed this particularly in the (free) forum software industry. While there are some truly excellent forum software packages being developed, a majority of them are, well, failing, and badly. The quality is not only horrendous, but the creativity and motive behind them is just…not there.
Now, I won’t mention the names of these developers, I think a simple Google search will do the trick.
